Following research appointments at the Hospital for Sick Children and the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (formerly the Clarke Institute of Psychiatry) in Toronto, Jane Hood served from 1996 to 2000 as Deputy Director, Programs Branch, at the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) (formerly the Medical Research Council of Canada) in Ottawa. At CIHR, Dr. Hood oversaw the peer review process and administration of grants and awards programs, including operating grants, salary and training awards, international scientific exchanges and partnerships with voluntary agencies.

Dr. Hood relocated to Vancouver in the fall of 2000 and has since been a policy advisor to the BC Medical Association as well as holding senior administrative roles in support of health research at both UBC and Simon Fraser University. Dr. Hood earned her PhD in Psychiatry and Psychological Medicine from the Institute of Medical Science at the University of Toronto in 1995.
