Connections research is funded for five years (2008-2013).

Research will occur in two phases with sequential projects that build upon one another.

Research Plan

In Phase 1, we will conduct in-depth telephone interviews, administer online surveys, and host regional meetings to:

  • strengthen and build our network of researchers and stakeholders across Canada;
  • determine stakeholders' needs, preferences and capacity for using research evidence; and
  • determine what is perceived as evidence and how decisions are made concerning services.

In Phase 2, we will use information learned through activities in Phase 1 along with published literature on knowledge translation and exchange (KTE) to:

  • develop an innovative KTE strategy; and
  • evaluate the feasibility and potential impact of the KTE strategy with up to 100 interested agencies that provide services for women with substance use issues and their children in Canada.

The KTE strategy likely will include toolkits, tailored messaging, and direct interpersonal contacts, strategies that have been effective in fostering the use of research evidence in other areas.
